Small Talk: 5 Years Married, What I Packed For NOLA, My Favorite Coffee Cups & More!

Last weekend Nathan and I celebrated 5 years married - FIVE YEARS! Quite honestly, it feels weird to even type that out! I'm not quite sure how it's already been five years... I can still remember our wedding day, where it was way hotter than it was forecast to be and Nathan was picking bugs out of my wedding dress - tulle wedding gowns and golf courses do not mix well... just saying (haha!)

Okay, okay... but in all seriousness - Nathan is the man-power (quite literally) behind this entire blog and Instagram account. The truth is, I built the platform, I worked hard to gain a following, I put in the hours... but the truth (also) is, none of it would even be possible without Nathan. NONE of it.

He is the one who sits on the couch with me at 10:30 at night and dreams up ideas for our next project. He is the one who works a full day at his "real" job and then comes home and works on a renovation. He's the one who walks in the door, after watching my ridiculous DIY attempts and says "ohhh let's see this awesome dirt pot!" - that's Nathan. He encourages me, makes me laugh (all the time) and makes sure he never leaves the house without a goodbye kiss. I truly appreciate him everyday - but this weekend, I'll remind myself to appreciate him a little but more.

...and if you want to get reaallll sappy, like I am...

here's a shortened version of our wedding video

(I've spared you the 6+ minute version - you're welcome)

I always said that I wanted to take a trip for our five year anniversary... we didn't take a conventional honeymoon, so I really wanted to take a big anniversary trip. Well, as everyone knows, Covid happened and while I would have liked to be somewhere out of the country right now... the world had other plans. So, instead we decided to book a quick trip with our friends, another couple, and head to New Orleans for a long weekend. There will be a separate blog post this coming week, providing all the details of our trip - just wait!

Speaking of taking vacations... I'm always curious how other people pack for trips. I like to think I am a light-packer, but after seeing how our friends packed for the trip, Nathan and I are definitely over-packers (whoops!) After being there for 1 full day though, I was happy that we packed the way we did - it was brutally hot and humid and I had to change probably 3 times a day from sweating -- not kidding. Here's all the clothes I packed for our trip - we were gone 3 full days and have two travel days! When we travel, I like to bring versatile pieces that can be worn more than once (if possible) or layered!

I've been sharing my morning coffee routine on Instagram and those videos are usually followed up with a bunch of questions about the cups I use. This one has quickly become my favorite - but it doesn't fit in my car cup holder! (ughhh) So, if I need to take it to go, I have been using this one & it's held up great! Before we left for our trip, I found this one, also on Amazon, and I ordered it right when we got back. I've been using it since Wednesday and it has the best of both words... a see-through silicone sleeve (so you can still see that milk swirl!) and it's thin enough to fit in a cup holder! Win, win! Linked all three of them below for you :)

Other Random Things:

  • Speaking of coffee, I have been using this coarse ground coffee (from Amazon) for my cold brew and it's delicious! #gamechanger

  • I recently shared my DIY fail... I tried the dirt hack on a vase I painted and it didn't go too well. But in case you were wondering, this is what it was supposed to look like! I've seen so many people do that DIY and it turns out beautiful... so I'm not sure where I went wrong - but I will try again! ...probably next weekend

  • Earlier this week I shared my new FAVORITE product - like favorite ever. I have struggled with our couch and Boone's fur, basically since we got him... and this product gets ALL his hair off our sofa. I was so happy that I almost cried tears of joy. If you're a pet owner - YOU NEED THIS. Add to cart now.

  • I saved this photo on Instagram earlier this week... I mean, can we talk about that Pilea Plant?! I've never seen one so big! #plantgoals

  • Last week I shared a pair of tumblers that I bought from my friend Logan's Pottery Shop & I'm truly obsessed with them. The quality is amazing and they are one of my favorite purchases in a long time. Her re-stocks sell out so quick - so I was beyond excited when I snagged them... shes having another re-stock today!!! Make sure to snag one of her beautiful pieces if you can!(@stoneandwave)

  • I've been using this sound machine for 3 months and it is a game changer! If you like to sleep with the noise of a fan... this one is for you! Highly recommend! ...and I really missed it when we were on vacation!

Talk soon friends,

Kayleigh
